Olivia Daane
Olivia Daane is a painter (known for her butterfly series begun in 2008), art consultant, songwriter and mom. A full time Aspenite since 1997, she spends as much time as she can in the mountains and taking in all the enriching programs Aspen has to offer.
Olivia received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1992. She then studied with Syracuse University's undergraduate and graduate programs in Florence, Italy followed by an apprenticeship with internationally-recognized artist Paul Harmon. Olivia opened her LIVASPENART STUDIO in 2006 and LIVASPENART GALLERY on Cooper Avenue in Aspen, Co in February of 2011-October of 2013.
Her latest body of work has been large, mixed media butterflies on canvas. Filled with her use of color and love of language, they share, as through a key to a map, Olivia's view of art as a language that can dissolve barriers to communication. The alphabets and expressions of different cultures are used both from their own cultural basis and also broken down and recreated as Olivia’s own. The viewer is left to unpuzzle her semiotics traveling the canvas with sayings, directions, games, ghosted outlines of threatened species and eye-catching patterns. The butterfly, always a symbol of metamorphosis, has become her perfect muse for sheltering the globe’s challenges and beauty simultaneously.
